Understand What Rooter Service Is and When You Need It

Updated: Jul 19, 2022

Fix Your Clogged Drains

You may have already heard the word “rooter” and wondered what it meant. The name initially came from the culprit for stopped up drains: roots. Samuel L. Blanc, the gentleman who invented the first rooter machine in 1933, assembled a washing machine motor, roller skate wheels, and a steel cable to rotate the blades, in order to clear clogged drains that were blocked from tree roots. This invention is the original model of the machine that plumbers use today to break up or pull up clogging material in a sewer. Below are some problems that need the service of this machine:

Clogs

Your septic tank gradually fills with solid waste. The greywater passes through the tank and out into the underground drain field lines in your yard but when the tank is already full of solid waste, you are most likely to experience sewage backups in your toilet or slow drains in your tubs and sinks. If the toilet gurgles when water runs from the sink, this could mean a possible clog. Objects and debris that should not have been flushed, like tissue, wet wipes, and sanitary napkins, can also clog your drains and pipes. If sewage odors are seeping from drains, then you need to call a plumber for help.

Tank leak

If you notice oddly green grass when other vegetation is all dried up or if you find raw sewage on your lawn, there could be a leak in your septic tank or your lateral lines are possibly receiving too much wastewater from the septic tank and are saturating your yard. This could be an environmental and health hazard, so let a plumbing expert inspect your septic system right away.

Tree roots

Tree roots can wrap around whatever is in their way and can threaten the healthy function of your home’s sewer lines.
